I have been looking around for a high quality dog food that has low protein. I’m getting a dog in a few months, it’s a Sloughi, the the very reputable Sloughi breeder says that the need low protein, about 20-25% because in their natural environment they don’t get much protein, and still today if they do, it causes problems. So I was hoping that someone would know of a very high quality dog food, such as Orijen and Taste of Wild, but one that has 20-25% protein. I’ve looked at Taste of Wild and other brands and they have 30-45% protein which is just way to high.
When I get the puppy, I will feed it whatever his breeder feeds him, but I would like to change it after a while, this is why I want to know.
My dog was put on NF formula for his kidneys. He is a greyhound, and dont really agree with the low protein diet because greys have higher creatinines than other dogs. Well, just in case I want to buy an over the counter cheaper dog food with low protein. I’ve looked into the nutro. His blood work and urinalysis came back normal after a month on the NF, but their normal may be too low. Give me a list of low protien dog food

RAW food is bad people. Learn about something before you just start tooting it as good. its just a fad. natural/raw doesnt equal better for domestic dogs in todays world. Would you eat raw food? The meat that we can buy at the store (the same meat you and I buy and cook before eating) is NOT the same as the meat that a wild animal eats from a natural kill. Commercial meat has been processed and exposed to many factors that make feeding it to our companion pets potentially harmful. If we could provide the same fresh raw meat that the ancestors of today’s dog had access to 600,000 years ago, including the hot fresh guts – what wild animals still go for first in a kill – then it might be OK to feed them with that food source.
Unfortunately, today’s pet owners can’t. Meat that is processed and sold through retailers has been exposed to a number of chemical agents. There are 72,00 chemicals now in use in the USA. Commercial meat, even "Organic meat", can be (and most likely is) exposed to most of these 72,00 chemicals. These MUST be destroyed by using heat to generate temperatures that will break them down.
It is not just the raw meat that can cause today’s domesticated dog harm. Raw vegetables can also do damage. The Glycemic Index of Foods (Internet web site at www.glycemic.com) shows that raw carrot can cause the pancreas to produce much more insulin than the same amount of cooked carrot.
The overload of insulin will then cause the dogs liver to have problems the same as a diabetic human would experience. The Glycemic Index of Foods list over 1,000 raw and cooked meats and vegetable food sources and shows us that we MUST choose what we put into an animals diet with care. We are seeing an increase in the number of diabetic dogs and the correlation between the growing popularity of feeding dogs a raw food diet and this disease can not be ignored.
I just found out that the protein in my dogs liver is too high, so my vet recommended a low protein diet. She said Science Diet, Wellness should have something like that, but I haven’t found any of their dog foods with low protein (Daisy will be 7 in October, she is a Jack Russell Terrier). She also recommend that I buy the senior dog food. I’m worried that this will lead to more health problems, my vet did mention that she is great otherwise. If you could suggest a low protein diet that would be great, but please no lamb, she hates it.

We have a Boston Terrier that has seizures and been on Phenobarbital for over 5 yrs and also on Hill’s Prescription Science diet l/d that cost over .00 for 20#.
I am looking for recipes or other dog food that is LOW PROTEIN and LOW FAT as she is gaining weight and that means more seizures and higher meds and worse on her and also more blood test!

Trying to find a low protein Dry Dog Food. Must be Healthy and similar to Solid Gold ~ Human Grade.
My Dog is 10 Years Old and just had is annual. All his tests came back Great except is Urine test which showed Protein. The ratio the vet gave me was 0 to 3 Plus and his showed a 2 Plus. He has been on Solid Gold Dry Food for the last 8 Years. Any Help will be much help. Thanks
I am looking for any special low protein puppy food or diets that I can cook for my puppy. I want another opinion from some experienced people who have been down this road with their toy breed dogs. My little guy has the symptoms of portosystemic shunt, and before the test even come back I want to start him now on a low protein diet, cause I cant take the thought or even watch him go through his tremors and episodes after eating. He is 1 half lbs. and it’s ridiculous, and if the tests come back he doesn’t have it then praise God, but until then, i want to do all that I can for him. Any experienced owners that have dealt with this please respond and help me. If you just need 2 points and have nothing good to say, than shame on you. He eats twice a day about a heaping tablespoon each meal so it is easy to feed him Really well at low cost. He is currently on medicated shampoo and it is working well. His hair is growing back out as his diet has been addressed. He Likes to play with toys of all sorts. Li-Li has had some trauma from an abrasion and hair loss with irritated skin allergy at his neck so he is reactive when someone tries to take his collar on and off.
